Description: This polygon feature class shows the Special Area Plan for the Sponge Docks and Community Redevelopment Area categorized and symbolized by Character District using the WGS84 Web Mercator projection. Character Districts seek to maintain the distinctive character of Tarpon Springs by respecting existing physical conditions and architecture. For each parcel in the feature class, the parcel number, site number, acreage, street, district name, and Character District are identified in attribute table. The Special Area Plan has been divided into ten Character Districts, similar in scale to neighborhoods. The ten Character Districts are: Downtown, Downtown Gateway, Municipal Gateway, North Pinellas Ave, South Gateway, South Pinellas Ave, South Safford Ave, Sponge Docks, Spring Bayou, and Uptown. The number of districts and their respective locations were derived over a number of Planning and Redevelopment Focus Group public meetings and a community workshop. Character District designations and configurations are considerate of the generally agreed upon future land uses, functions, and development character planned for each district. The Character Districts will carry forward into the form-based land development regulations that will be drafted for the area following adoption of the Special Area Plan.
